Mr. Douglas Kenney Named as Acting Principal of Hays School for the 2025-2026 School Year

The Horizon School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Douglas Kenney as the Acting Principal of Hays School for the 2025-2026 school year.

Douglas received his Bachelor of Education degree with rural concentration from the University of Alberta in 2014. Douglas previously spent almost 20 years working in the construction industry before going back to school in 2010 to obtain his teaching degree. He feels the switch from construction to education has been a great blessing. He has enjoyed the opportunity to see children and colleagues alike succeed in their education and in their lives.

He started with the Horizon School Division in 2017 at Taber Christian School. In 2018, Douglas began teaching at Hays School starting with grades 2-3, then K-1 and now teaching grades 4-8. He feels that it’s been a joy to be a part of such a great school community and a privilege to serve as acting principal.

Douglas has been happily married to his wife Twila for 31 years and they have 2 adult children named Desirae and Carston and have lived in Medicine Hat for over 25 years. This summer, they are looking forward to camping adventures and exploring the great province of Alberta.

When asked how he feels about his upcoming role as acting principal, Douglas stated, “I am very thankful for the opportunity to serve in the principal role for the 2025-2026 school year. I look forward to serving our students, staff, parents and community and to an exciting and successful school year.”

Please join us in congratulating Douglas on his temporary new assignment commencing the 2025-2026 school year.
