Horizon Welcomes New Principal for WR Myers High School

The Board of Trustees for The Horizon School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Adam Hughes, as the new principal of W.R. Myers High School commencing the 2024-2025 school year.

Adam was raised in Medicine Hat and achieved his university degrees at the University of Lethbridge. He began his teaching career in a small K-12 school in Dewberry nearly 15 years ago. In 2011, Adam moved to W.R. Myers High School to teach math and physical education; he later became the school’s Athletic Director and coached football, rugby, and basketball. In 2022 Adam took on the role of Vice Principal for W.R. Myers and in February of 2024 he was the successful candidate for the role of Principal for Warner School.

Adam’s favorite thing about teaching is connecting and building relationships with his fellow teachers and students; he loves helping students reach their full potential.

Outside of school, Adam loves spending time with his wife Laura, and their two kids, Sam, and Ivy. They also have an adorable dog, Molly, that they love taking on adventures.

Adam says he is excited for the opportunity to return to W.R. Myers. He states he has spent most of his teaching career at Myers and considers the students and staff as part of his family. He also said he is looking forward to supporting students, and staff, in their journey.

The Board of Trustees is confident W.R. Myers School students, staff, and community will benefit from Mr. Hughes’ experience, strong work ethic, and ability to foster relationships.

Please join us in congratulating Adam on his new assignment with The Horizon School Division.
