Ms. Melissa Gartly

May 31, 2018

Horizon School Division No. 67 is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Melissa Gartly as the new principal of Lomond Community School beginning the 2018-2019 school year.

Ms. Gartly brings with her 2 Bachelor Degrees and an 18-year commitment to the Lomond Community School where she has taught in the capacity of both a sub teacher and contracted teacher and in the past 4 years, as an administrator for the school.

Ms Gartly is passionate about Lomond Community School and all it has to offer to and for the community. She also believes strongly in Horizon School Division’s educational mission to develop contributing citizens and engaged learners and is thrilled to continue working towards an inclusive learning environment that benefits all students.

Ms. Gartly states, “It is a true honour to step into this position and serve with such a gifted group of staff and students.  Not many people get to go to work every day in an environment full of such talent!!”

Melissa and her husband, Jon, have lived in the Lomond area for the past 22 years and have three children Nolan, Norah and Nate.  Melissa and Jon are actively involved in the Southern Alberta Bible Camp and both enjoy working with staff and children throughout the year.  They have also spent time working in Haiti and have a love for serving those living in poverty.

The Board of Trustees is confident Lomond students, staff, and community will benefit from Ms. Gartly’s commitment to the Lomond community, passion for rural education, and strong belief in an inclusive learning environment that benefits all students. Please join us in welcoming Melissa to her new adventure as she continues to grow with Team Horizon.
