Horizon School Division No. 67 is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Johanna Kutanzi as Principal of Horizon’s 19 Hutterian Brethren Schools commencing with the 2017-2018 school year.

With 28 years of educational experience, Johanna has spent the last 20 years in school administration with the last thirteen as principal of W.R. Myers High School in Taber, Alberta.

An English Language Learner herself, having originally come from Germany, Johanna believes that relationships are paramount and trust is essential for students to be successful. She states that, “we are guests on the colony, and we must ensure that teachers respect their colony’s values and the wants and aspirations of the colony parents” and that her, “work as a principal rests upon two primary pillars: quality programming and strong learning opportunities in a caring environment.”

Having started her teaching career in Fort Vermillion, as a second language teacher, Johanna brings experience working with children whose first language is not English. She also brings a strong administrative background having been the principal of Horizon’s largest school.

The Board of Trustees is confident that the students, staff, and colony members will benefit from Mrs. Kutanzi’s passion for providing quality education in a caring, collaborative, student centered environment.

Please join us in congratulating Johanna on her new assignment.
